Hi,I am Dr. Robert Galamaga (Hematologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I received my lab test that indicated that my GGT level is 504, AST level is 268, ALT level is 295, with a iron level 1997. I ve stopped drinking and am on a regimented diet including fruits and vegetables for the last 30 days. My AST, ALT and GGT have doubled in the last month. Any advice? Thank you
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Iron level is really high. Normal level is 65-170 microgram/dl 2. The rising GGT and elevated ALT and AST indicates ongoing liver injury. 3. Liver biopsy to rule out hemochromatosis is necessary. Other causes can also be evaluated in liver biopsy. Iron Chelation is necessary at earliest to prevent further injury. Continue regimented diet and avoiding alcohol. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
